COAS Leads Security Assessment in Jos, Plateau State, to Strengthen Peace


The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday, 2 April 2026, conducted a high-level on-the-spot assessment of the security situation in Jos, Plateau State, as part of intensified efforts to restore calm and consolidate lasting peace in the region.
Shaibu was warmly received by Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, highlighting the importance of civil-military cooperation in maintaining security. The COAS later received a detailed operational briefing from the GOC 3 Division and Commander of Operation ENDURING PEACE, Maj.-Gen. Folusho Oyinlola, on ongoing measures to address security threats and prevent escalation.
During his visit, Lt.-Gen. Shaibu engaged with community leaders and local residents, reassuring them of the military’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding law-abiding citizens. He called on the public to remain calm, adhere to the curfew, cooperate with security agencies, and support ongoing operations and investigations.
The COAS emphasized that the army remains vigilant against any form of criminality and insurgency, and that all available resources are being deployed to secure vulnerable communities. He also praised the collaborative efforts of the military, police, and other security agencies in creating a safer environment for residents.
In a separate engagement, Shaibu interacted with youths and local stakeholders, urging them to play an active role in promoting peace and discouraging violence. He stressed that sustainable security requires community involvement alongside professional military efforts.
He concluded by assuring the people of Plateau State that the army is committed not only to immediate security responses but also to long-term strategies aimed at fostering trust, stability, and development across the state.
