The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, has extended its community engagement campaign on the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure to divisions in Eti-Osa, Lekki, Ibeju and Iru/Victoria Island under Area F Command in Lagos.
The sensitisation programme, held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, followed a directive from the Commandant General of the Corps, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, urging commands nationwide to strengthen public awareness and stakeholder collaboration in safeguarding vital national infrastructure.
Speaking during the engagement, the Lagos State Commandant, Mr. Adedotun Keshinro, represented by the Head of the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Department, Deputy Commandant of Corps Kolawole Agbetiloye, said the initiative was designed to reduce incidents of vandalism affecting telecommunications facilities, transformers, road manholes and other essential public installations.
He warned against the destruction of fibre optic cables and metal installations often laid underground by telecommunications and construction companies. According to him, such acts disrupt essential services and undermine national development.
The commandant also urged residents and stakeholders to promptly report suspected cases of vandalism or illegal scrap dealings to the nearest NSCDC office or through Lagos State emergency lines, including 112 and 767, as well as the command’s public relations unit.
The Executive Chairman of Eti-Osa Local Government Area, Honourable Adeola Alimot Adetoro, represented by the Secretary to the Local Government, Mr. Fadipe Olajide, commended the Corps for promoting community participation in safeguarding public infrastructure. He encouraged NSCDC personnel under Area F Command to sustain the sensitisation efforts due to their importance in improving security across the communities.
Representatives of various stakeholder groups, including market leaders and community associations, pledged their cooperation in protecting public assets. The representative of the New Road Market leadership, Mrs. Atewolara Iyabo, called for stronger collaboration between traders and security agencies to strengthen security within marketplaces.
Similarly, the representative of the Car Dealers’ Association of Eti-Osa, Mr. Adenihun Adebayo, appealed for increased night patrols by security agencies to curb incidents of vehicle vandalism by criminal elements in the area.
The programme, attended by the Area Commander of Area F Command, Assistant Commandant of Corps Samson Ajayi, divisional officers and representatives of agencies such as the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Federal Road Safety Corps, ended with stakeholders resolving to work collectively with the NSCDC to protect manholes, fibre optic cables, rail sleepers, power installations and other critical national assets from vandalism.
