CAS Aneke Pledges Nigerian Air Force Support to INEC for Enhanced Election Logistics and Security

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has formally reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) commitment to supporting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in its mission to conduct smooth and credible elections across the country. This assurance underscores the military’s critical role in providing the logistical backbone and security architecture necessary for nationwide electoral integrity.

During a high-level courtesy visit to the INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, Air Marshal Aneke emphasized the NAF’s readiness to deploy its specialized capabilities. He noted that the Air Force remains prepared to facilitate the rapid movement of electoral materials and personnel, particularly to remote or difficult-to-reach terrains that present significant logistical hurdles for the commission.

Beyond transportation, the CAS highlighted that the Nigerian Air Force will provide comprehensive aerial surveillance to bolster election security. This strategy includes the deployment of various aviation assets, including advanced Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR). These drones will be utilized to monitor potential flashpoints and provide real-time data to ground security forces, ensuring a swift response to any disruptions.

In his response, Professor Joash Amupitan expressed his appreciation for the Air Force’s proactive stance, noting that the success of any election hinges on meticulous planning and robust inter-agency collaboration. He remarked that the NAF’s involvement is a vital component of the commission’s strategy to bridge logistical gaps and ensure that every vote is accounted for in a secure environment.

The partnership between the two agencies reflects a synchronized effort to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic processes through efficient resource management. As the nation prepares for upcoming electoral cycles, this collaboration aims to mitigate security risks and ensure the timely delivery of sensitive materials, ultimately fostering public confidence in the transparency of the polls.
