The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has recorded a significant institutional milestone with the successful completion of Regular Course 06, marking the largest officer training programme conducted by the Service in recent years and the first comprehensive training for newly recruited officers since 2019.
The Passing Out Parade (POP) for the course was held on Thursday, 5 February 2026, at the NDLEA Training School, Jos, Plateau State. The ceremony marked the conclusion of an intensive nine week residential training programme aimed at strengthening national fire safety architecture and enhancing emergency response capacity across the country.
A total of over 700 cadets, drawn from the 2022 and 2024 recruitment intakes and representing all parts of the federation, successfully completed the programme. The cadets underwent rigorous instruction in fire suppression techniques, emergency response operations, leadership development, discipline, teamwork, and decision making under pressure. The training reflects the Federal Fire Service’s renewed focus on professionalism, proactive disaster management, and improved operational effectiveness nationwide.
The Honourable Minister of Interior and Chairman, Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), Dr Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, was represented at the ceremony by the Secretary to the Board, Major General A M Jibril (rtd), who declared the parade open and delivered the Minister’s address. He emphasised the importance of sustained capacity building and inter agency cooperation in strengthening internal security and emergency management institutions.
In his remarks, the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, MBA, MDRM, stated that capacity building, operational readiness, and nationwide coverage remain central to the Service’s reform agenda. He noted that the successful training and passing out of over 700 officers demonstrates the Service’s commitment to strengthening professional manpower, improving response capability, and enhancing service delivery to communities across Nigeria. He added that the newly commissioned officers are fully prepared for immediate deployment in support of fire prevention, emergency response, and disaster risk reduction efforts nationwide.
Also speaking at the event, the Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Her Excellency Mrs Josephine Pyo, who represented the Executive Governor, congratulated the cadets on the successful completion of their training. She charged them to uphold the core values, discipline, and ethics of the Service, while commending the Federal Fire Service for its critical role in safeguarding lives and property. She further expressed appreciation to the instructors for their dedication and reaffirmed the Plateau State Government’s continued support for federal security and safety institutions.
The Commandant of the Nigeria Fire Academy, ACF Peter Umetali, in his vote of thanks, expressed gratitude to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the policy direction that made the training possible, and to the Honourable Minister of Interior for the ongoing reforms within the sector. He also appreciated the Chairman of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, represented by the Commandant of the NDLEA Training School, Jos, DCG Bashir Samuel Gadzama, for providing a conducive training environment. He commended the organisers of the Passing Out Parade and the instructors whose dedication shaped the cadets into disciplined and professional officers.
As part of the ceremony, outstanding cadets were recognised for exceptional performance during the course. ASF II Sarki Francis Uzomi emerged as the Most Disciplined Cadet, ASF II Anyim Joshua was awarded Best in Field Drills, while ASF II Opon Pius Dominic received the award for Best in Academics.
The event was attended by senior officers from the military and paramilitary services, represented by state controllers, commissioners, and directors, as well as traditional rulers, royal fathers, senior government officials, and other distinguished guests, underscoring the national significance of the occasion.
With the successful completion of Regular Course 06, the Federal Fire Service has further strengthened its manpower base and operational readiness, positioning the Service for faster response times and improved protection of lives and property across Nigeria. This achievement reinforces public safety, enhances national resilience, and aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
