The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has suspended Deputy Superintendent of Corps (DSC) Onoja Babayo Samuel over his alleged involvement in a shooting incident during a confrontation with traders at Kubwa Market, Abuja, on October 25, 2026.
The suspension follows the officer’s arrest by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command over allegations that he fired shots into the air during the confrontation.
The Corps management described the alleged action as a violation of its rules of engagement and standard operating procedures, particularly those governing the handling and use of firearms by personnel.
The Commandant General of the NSCDC, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has directed the officer’s immediate suspension and an Orderly Room Trial to establish his level of culpability. Audi maintains a zero tolerance policy towards the misuse of firearms and professional misconduct.
Following the suspension, Samuel has been relieved of his official duties and assignments pending the outcome of the trial. The Corps said the process would be handled at its national headquarters in Abuja, with the outcome made public upon its conclusion.
The NSCDC stated that appropriate sanctions would be imposed if the allegations against the officer were established, reiterating its commitment to professional conduct and public safety.
