Six investors have reportedly lost a total of ₦78.3 million following the collapse of an alleged Ponzi investment scheme operated under the name PXES in Kwara State.
The incident has renewed concerns about fraudulent investment platforms that promise participants unusually high returns but eventually collapse, leaving investors struggling to recover their money.
The reported losses highlight the financial risks associated with unregulated investment schemes, particularly those that rely on funds from new participants to pay earlier investors rather than generating genuine profits through legitimate business activities.Investors are advised to exercise caution before committing money to online investment platforms and other schemes promising quick or guaranteed returns.
They should verify the registration, ownership, operational status and regulatory approval of any investment company before transferring funds.Members of the public who suspect investment fraud are encouraged to preserve transaction receipts, bank statements, electronic communications and other relevant evidence and report their complaints to the appropriate law enforcement and financial regulatory authorities.
The reported ₦78.3 million loss underscores the need for increased public awareness, effective regulatory oversight and prompt investigation of suspected investment fraud to protect citizens from financial exploitation.
