In a move aimed at strengthening community safety and addressing emerging security challenges across Kwara State, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has commissioned a new divisional office in Epe-Opin, Ekiti Local Government Area of the state.
The new facility was officially inaugurated on Monday, January 19, 2026, by the Kwara State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Umar Mohammed, who said the upgrade from an outpost to a full divisional command became necessary in response to growing security concerns within the area.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Commandant Umar explained that the establishment of the division would significantly enhance operational effectiveness, improve rapid response to security incidents and deepen collaboration with community stakeholders. He added that the presence of a fully fledged divisional office would serve as a strong deterrent to criminal activities in Epe-Opin and surrounding communities.
According to him, the new division represents a strategic investment in public safety, noting that it would strengthen the Corps’ capacity to prevent crime, respond promptly to threats and ensure that peace and stability remain a priority across communities under its jurisdiction.
Commandant Umar also expressed deep appreciation to the Executive Chairman of Ekiti Local Government Area, Hon. Awelewa Olawale Gabriel, for his unwavering support and commitment to security. He described the Chairman’s cooperation as a clear demonstration of his understanding that the protection of lives and property is a collective responsibility.
In his remarks, Hon. Awelewa Olawale Gabriel commended the NSCDC leadership for prioritising the safety of communities in Ekiti Local Government Area. He assured the Corps of the continued support of the local government in initiatives aimed at promoting peace and strengthening cooperation between security agencies and local authorities.
Also speaking at the event, the Elepe of Epe-Opin land, His Royal Majesty, Oba Alabi Gabriel Odeniyi, applauded the NSCDC for its sustained efforts in safeguarding the area. He noted that the establishment of a fully operational divisional office would further enhance collaboration between the traditional institution and security agencies in addressing local security challenges.
Similarly, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State, Chief Sunday Adeniran Fagbemi, described the commissioning of the new division as timely and commendable. He stated that the initiative would not only deter criminal activities but also reinforce public confidence in the government’s commitment to the safety and security of citizens across the state.
