The Edo State Police Command has successfully rescued nine victims of kidnapping during a drone-led security operation carried out in Egbojo, Ikabigbo community, Jattu, within Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.
According to the police, the operation was launched after credible intelligence was received, prompting a joint team of police officers, local vigilantes, and hunters to deploy real-time aerial surveillance. At about 4:25 a.m. on January 9, the drone technology helped security operatives locate the kidnappers’ hideout, forcing the suspects to flee the camp and abandon two rifles.
All nine victims were rescued unharmed and have since been reunited with their families. The police described the operation as a major breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.
In addition to the rescue, the Edo State Police Command recorded several arrests and recoveries across different parts of the state. These included stolen vehicles, firearms, suspected armed robbers, cult gang members, and the dismantling of a child trafficking syndicate in Uromi, where a newborn baby was also rescued. The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustained operations and urged residents to continue providing timely and useful intelligence to aid security efforts.
