Fire officers are trained to run towards danger but in Tunisia, one ran towards glory. At the 15th African Masters Athletics Championships held in Tunis, Tunisia, a Federal Fire Service officer, DSF Adeyoju Adebusuyi, showcased exceptional athletic prowess, proving that the discipline and resilience required in firefighting also translate into outstanding success on the track.
Competing in the Masters 45 category, DSF Adebusuyi delivered a remarkable performance, turning determination into dominance as he powered past his rivals to secure two gold medals in the 800 metres and 400 metres events, and a silver medal in the 200 metres. His impressive outing across three races earned him the title of Best Athlete in his category, underscoring his consistency and competitive excellence.
Representing both the Federal Fire Service and Nigeria as part of a nine man national contingent, DSF Adebusuyi played a key role in Nigeria’s strong showing at the championship, where the country recorded an impressive haul of 18 gold, five silver and two bronze medals. His achievements further elevated the profile of the Service on the continental stage.
Upon his return, DSF Adebusuyi formally presented his medals to the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, in his office, in a moment that reflected pride, honour and institutional support. In the same spirit of excellence, the Federal Fire Service sports team also presented their trophies to the Controller General after emerging champions in both football and tug of war at the Inter Agency Sports Competition held at the Nigeria Immigration Service
