By Tunji Braimoh, Abuja

Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has convened an emergency security meeting with heads of security agencies and top government officials as part of renewed efforts to address emerging security challenges in parts of the state.

The high-level meeting, held in Birnin Kebbi, reviewed the prevailing security situation and explored strategies to reinforce the state’s security architecture in order to safeguard lives and property.

Addressing journalists after the closed-door meeting, the Commissioner for Home Affairs and Internal Security, Hon. Haliru Wasagu, said the engagement was necessitated by the need to strengthen security operations and ensure sustained peace across the state.

According to him, participants conducted a comprehensive assessment of existing security strategies, identified operational gaps, and deliberated on measures to improve coordination among security agencies in responding to emerging threats.

Wasagu disclosed that Governor Idris directed security agencies to intensify surveillance, intelligence gathering, and patrol operations in identified flashpoints across the state to prevent criminal activities and restore public confidence.

He reaffirmed the governor’s commitment to protecting residents and creating a secure environment conducive to economic growth and development.

Quoting the governor, Wasagu said: “This administration remains resolute in its determination to flush out criminal elements and dismantle their hideouts. Anyone found engaging in activities that threaten public peace and security will face the full weight of the law.”

The commissioner noted that the state government has continued to provide logistical support, mobility assets, and welfare packages for security personnel to enhance their operational effectiveness and response capabilities.

He further explained that the administration recognizes the critical role of security agencies in maintaining law and order and remains committed to supporting their efforts through sustained investment and collaboration.

Wasagu appealed to residents to work closely with security agencies by providing timely, credible, and actionable information that could assist in preventing crime and apprehending criminal suspects.

He emphasized that community participation remains a vital component of the state’s security strategy, noting that public vigilance and cooperation are essential in combating criminality and sustaining peace.

The commissioner also commended security operatives for their dedication, professionalism, and sacrifices in maintaining stability across Kebbi State despite evolving security challenges.

He expressed confidence that the strengthened collaboration between government, security agencies, and local communities would yield positive results in the fight against crime.

The meeting forms part of Governor Idris’ broader security agenda aimed at ensuring that Kebbi State remains safe for residents, businesses, and investors, while preserving the peace necessary for socioeconomic development.

Observers believe the governor’s proactive engagement with security stakeholders underscores his administration’s determination to stay ahead of emerging threats and maintain a secure environment throughout the state.
