The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has reiterated the Agency’s strong commitment to enhancing collaboration with the Federal Fire Service (FFS) to improve national coordination in disaster preparedness, fire prevention, and emergency response.
She made this pledge today while receiving the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, who paid a courtesy visit to NEMA Headquarters in Abuja.
Mrs. Umar emphasized that effective cooperation between both agencies is vital to saving lives and minimizing disaster losses, particularly during major emergencies that require swift deployment, specialized resources, and a unified command structure.
Describing the meeting as a significant step toward strengthening an already longstanding partnership, the DG noted that NEMA and the FFS remain central to frontline emergency management in the country.
In his remarks, Controller General Adeyemi—accompanied by senior officers—expressed appreciation for the engagement and reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to deeper collaboration with NEMA. He observed that although both agencies have complementary responsibilities, improved coordination is essential in areas such as joint training, simulation exercises, rapid response operations, and post-disaster assessments, especially during large-scale fire incidents that threaten lives and livelihoods.
He further stated that the Fire Service is prepared to deploy personnel to NEMA’s emergency response bays and to work more closely with the Agency on disaster evaluations and relief interventions.
