President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sent Vice President Kashim Shettima to Kebbi State to meet with the distressed families of the schoolgirls abducted from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School Maga in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area.
The President assured Nigerians that the Federal Government is working tirelessly to ensure the safe and swift return of the abducted students.
In a statement released on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu revealed that the abduction occurred despite intelligence reports warning of a potential attack by bandits. He commended the Kebbi State Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris for the proactive measures taken to prevent the kidnapping even though the attackers eventually struck.
Tinubu, who said he had been fully briefed by military authorities on both the Kebbi attack and the recent killing of soldiers including Brigadier General Musa Uba in Borno State, expressed profound sorrow over the tragedies.
While lamenting the loss of military personnel he said:
“As the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of our soldiers and officers on active duty. May God comfort the families of Brigadier General Musa Uba and our other fallen heroes.”
He also condemned the attack on schoolchildren describing it as cruel and unacceptable.
“I am equally distressed that heartless terrorists have disrupted the education of innocent schoolgirls. I have directed security agencies to act swiftly and ensure the girls are returned safely to Kebbi State,” he stated.
The President urged communities especially those in vulnerable areas to strengthen cooperation with security agencies stressing that public support remains essential in defeating criminal networks.
“Our security forces cannot effectively protect the country without timely information from citizens. I call on community leaders and residents particularly in frontline areas to share useful intelligence. Your cooperation is vital in our fight against insecurity,” he added.
According to the statement Vice President Shettima is scheduled to visit Kebbi on Wednesday to meet with state officials console affected families and deliver the President’s message of solidarity and commitment.
