MENTALLY UNSTABLE MAN KILLS SOLDIER IN LAGOS; ARMY ANNOUNCES BATTLE SIMULATION DRILL IN ABUJA

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the tragic death of a soldier on internal security duty in the Imota area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, after he was fatally attacked by a mentally unstable individual.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Musa Yahaya, the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 81 Division, the incident occurred on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at about 4:00 pm. The soldier was attempting to calm a chaotic situation when the attacker suddenly struck him on the head with a heavy log, inflicting critical injuries.

Yahaya stated that troops at the scene immediately intervened, neutralising the attacker and recovering the soldier’s weapon. The injured soldier was quickly evacuated to the Ikorodu General Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The Nigerian Army disclosed that the fallen soldier has been buried according to Islamic rites in a solemn ceremony attended by the Acting Commanding Officer and other unit officers. The Division extended heartfelt condolences to the family, colleagues, and friends of the deceased, praising his dedication and service to the nation.

The Army further revealed that an investigation has been launched to uncover more details surrounding the incident. It also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.

Meanwhile, the Army has announced that it will conduct a battle simulation exercise in a military barracks in Abuja and has advised nearby residents not to panic, assuring them that it is only a routine drill aimed at enhancing operational readiness.
