Nasarawa Varsity Peace Institute Students Embark on Strategic Study Tour to Operation ENDURING PEACE

Students from the African Peace Institute for Social Research, Nasarawa State University, embarked on a study tour to the Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP) as part of their academic excursion to Plateau State.

Welcoming the delegation to the Joint Operations Area, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Folusho Oyinlola—represented by the Chief of Staff, Headquarters 3 Division, Brigadier General AU Gumel—emphasized the vital contributions of academic institutions to internal security development, peacebuilding, and national cohesion.

Major General Oyinlola noted that the theme of the visit, “Community Security Initiative for Sustainable Peace and Development in Africa,” is both timely and closely aligned with the mandate of the Joint Task Force. He stressed that the tour highlights the significance of civil–military relations in fostering understanding, cooperation, and long-term development. According to him, sustainable peace is attainable only through collaboration with knowledge-driven institutions capable of designing frameworks that boost the operational efficiency of security agencies in addressing emerging threats.

The Commander further affirmed that the Armed Forces of Nigeria places high value on intellectual engagements and remains committed to creating platforms for strategic interaction with scholars to strengthen national security in a multi-agency setting. He commended the African Peace Institute for Social Research for selecting JTF OPEP as part of its study tour and encouraged the students to produce well-informed reports containing actionable recommendations that support national security and peaceful coexistence.

In his remarks, the Team Leader and Director of the Institute of Peace and Social Rehabilitation, Nasarawa State University, Professor Danladi Atu, applauded the operation’s briefing, describing it as evidence-based and reflective of high academic standards. He reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to promoting peace, supporting civil–military cooperation, and enhancing internal security management.

Professor Atu also expressed gratitude to the Commander for approving the visit and assured that the institute would continue to provide intellectual input toward strengthening national security.

Delivering the vote of thanks, one of the students, ACG Benito Eze mni, appreciated JTF OPEP for the warm reception, noting that the knowledge gained during the visit would be applied to improving the nation’s security architecture.

The visit featured an operations briefing, an interactive session, presentation of souvenirs, signing of the visitors’ book, and a group photograph.
