The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), Major General Warrah Bello Idris, has conducted his maiden operational and familiarization visit to Headquarters Sector 1, JTF NW OPFY, located at Headquarters 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna. He was warmly received on Tuesday, 12 November 2025, by the General Officer Commanding 1 Division and Commander Sector 1 OPFY, Major General Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed Wase.
During the visit, Major General Wase delivered an extensive briefing outlining the major operational achievements recorded by the Sector, challenges currently faced, and ongoing strategies designed to sustain pressure on terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements within the Area of Responsibility.
In his address, Major General Idris emphasized the urgency of reinvigorating operational efforts geared towards the complete elimination of banditry and terrorism in the North West and across Nigeria. He commended the troops of Sector 1 for their professionalism, resilience, and unwavering commitment to duty. He highlighted the notable reduction in criminal activities within the region, attributing the success to effective kinetic operations and robust collaboration among security agencies.
The Theatre Commander reaffirmed that the overarching objective of Operation FANSAN YAMMA is not merely to suppress criminality but to eradicate it entirely. He urged troops to remain disciplined, vigilant, mission-focused, and united in synergy with other security agencies to ensure enduring peace and stability.
Major General Idris also warned against operational lapses that could expose personnel or military assets to unnecessary risks. He assured troops that efforts are underway to further strengthen operational capacity through enhanced combat enablers and improved logistics support.
The visit featured an interaction with officers and soldiers, an assessment tour of various Sub-Sectors including the Air Component of OPFY at the Air Training Command Kaduna, and a courtesy call on the Governor of Niger State, His Excellency Hon. Mohammed Umar Bago, during which key operational concerns and the need for intensified joint operations were discussed.
