The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has approved the redeployment of 65 Rear Admirals and appointed new principal staff officers and commanders across various naval commands, units, and tri-service institutions.
According to a statement by the Navy’s Director of Information, Commodore Adams Aliu, the reshuffle is part of the Navy’s ongoing efforts to boost operational efficiency, enhance professionalism, and reinforce command structures in line with its constitutional responsibilities.
Under the new postings, several senior officers were reassigned to key leadership and strategic roles within the Nigerian Navy and allied defence institutions.
Some notable appointments include:
- Rear Admiral Suleiman Abdullahi – Chief of Logistics, Naval Headquarters, Abuja
- Rear Admiral Kasim Bushi – Executive Director, International Maritime Institute of Nigeria (IMION)
- Rear Admiral Suleiman Dahun – Director of Defence Cooperation, Defence Headquarters
- Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed – Commandant, National Defence College
- Rear Admiral Musa Katagum – Chief of Operations, Naval Headquarters
- Rear Admiral Fredrick Damtong – Chief of Naval Engineering, Naval Headquarters
- Rear Admiral Abdul-Rasheed Haruna – Chief of Training, Naval Headquarters
- Rear Admiral Hamza Ibrahim – Group Managing Director, Navy Holdings Limited
- Rear Admiral Abubakar Mustapha – Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command
- Rear Admiral Chidozie Okehie – Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command
- Rear Admiral Suleiman Ibrahim – Flag Officer Commanding, Central Naval Command
- Rear Admiral Ebiobowei Zipele – Flag Officer Commanding, Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC)
Others were deployed to serve as directors in key departments such as administration, logistics, operations, policy, and engineering both within the Naval Headquarters and Defence Headquarters.
Vice Admiral Abbas stated that the redeployment aims to inject new energy into the Navy’s leadership, enhance synergy among formations, and sustain the service’s recent gains in maritime security operations.
The Navy described the exercise as a strategic realignment designed to ensure greater efficiency, improved training, and stronger command delivery throughout the service.
