The National Emergency Management Agency (Nema), Yola Operations Office, has conferred a Commendation and Award of Excellence on the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) 153 Base Services Group, Yola, in recognition of its outstanding humanitarian interventions, professionalism, and unwavering partnership in disaster management and community support across Adamawa State.
Presenting the award on 15 October 2025, the Head of Operations, Nema Yola Office, Mr. Ladan Ayuba, praised the base for its uncommon dedication and selfless commitment to humanitarian operations within the region. He commended the unit’s consistent role since 2014 in providing medical care for internally displaced persons (IDS) during the insurgency and its rapid response during the July 2025 flood disaster in Yola South Local Government Area.
Mr. Ayuba noted that during times of crisis, the 153 Base Services Group has always been at the forefront of action, deploying personnel, vehicles, and medical teams to assist in rescue operations, evacuate victims, deliver emergency aid, and provide critical logistics and security support.
According to Nema, the award acknowledges the base’s extensive humanitarian engagements, which include providing rescue transport, potable water supply to Idp camps, ensuring security during relief distribution, and assisting displaced families in safely returning to their homes. These, the agency said, exemplify the true spirit of inter-agency collaboration and national service.
Receiving the award on behalf of the Nigerian Air Force, Group Captain Mu’azu Mohammed Mu’azu, Commander of the 153 Base Services Group, expressed deep appreciation to Nema for the honour. He dedicated the recognition to the Chief of the Air Staff (Cas), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, describing it as a reflection of his visionary leadership and commitment to a people-oriented Air Force.
Group Captain Mu’azu also extended special gratitude to the Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command, Air Vice Marshal Patrick Obeya, for his continuous guidance and mentorship. He stated that the award is a testament to the dedication of every airman and airwoman who continues to serve with courage, compassion, and commitment to humanity.
He reaffirmed the Naf’s readiness to continue protecting lives and supporting communities in times of need, noting that humanitarian service remains an integral part of the Force’s operations. He said, “We will always stand by the people, particularly in their most vulnerable moments.”
Nema maintained that the collaboration between the agency and the Nigerian Air Force has remained one of the most reliable partnerships in emergency response efforts across the North-East. The synergy, it said, has saved countless lives and strengthened resilience among disaster-prone communities.
The recognition, according to observers, reinforces the Chief of the Air Staff’s vision of a people-centred Nigerian Air Force focused on national development, humanitarian impact, and community resilience.
With this latest honour, the 153 Base Services Group, Yola, has further cemented its reputation as one of the Nigerian Air Force’s leading units in civil-military cooperation, community outreach, and humanitarian assistance across the country.
