NSCDC Special Mining Marshals Commander, Onoja Attah, Charges Operatives on Physical Exercise

The Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Special Mining Marshals, Onoja Attah, has charged operatives of the unit to take physical fitness and regular exercise seriously, describing it as an essential component of operational readiness, discipline, and professional excellence in the field of mining security.

Addressing officers during a fitness and drill session held at the unit’s training ground, Attah emphasized that the nature of security operations, especially in the solid minerals sector, demands alertness, stamina, and agility. He noted that the ability of personnel to effectively respond to emergencies, pursue offenders, and withstand harsh field conditions depends largely on their physical conditioning.

According to him, the work of the Mining Marshals is not just about intelligence gathering or patrol duties; it requires men and women who are mentally sharp and physically strong. A fit officer can withstand pressure, make quick decisions, and represent the Corps with pride and confidence.

He reminded the operatives that their assignment involves operating in rugged terrains, remote mining sites, and sometimes volatile environments, where long hours of patrol, foot surveillance, and rapid response may be required. In such conditions, he said, physical weakness or poor endurance could endanger not just the mission but the lives of team members.

Commander Attah further linked physical fitness to mental discipline and teamwork, stressing that officers who train together build stronger bonds and morale. He urged all units under the Mining Marshals initiative to incorporate weekly physical drills, endurance marches, and defensive tactics training into their regular duty routines.

He also pointed out that maintaining good physical health reduces stress and fatigue, improves focus, and enhances the overall performance of the Corps. A sound mind thrives in a sound body. To secure the mining sector effectively, we must first secure our own health and fitness.

The Commander reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that all operatives under his command remain physically and mentally prepared to protect the nation’s mineral assets, curb illegal mining, and safeguard the environment from criminal exploitation.
