PSC Subjects 30 Senior Police Officers to Promotion Exam, Oral Interview Holds Tomorrow

Argungu warns: “Officers who fail three times will be retired

The Police Service Commission (PSC) on Monday, September 29, 2025, conducted compulsory promotion examinations for 30 senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

Those who sat for the examination include one Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), two Commissioners of Police (CPs), eleven Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), and sixteen Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) out of the 17 invited.

The exercise, now a prerequisite for career progression, was held at the Solomon Arase Chairman’s Conference Hall, on the 6th floor of the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters.

PSC Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Hashimu Argungu, mni, described the initiative as a necessary innovation to restore professionalism and dignity to the Force. He explained that any officer who fails the examination three times would be retired at that rank, citing “obvious incompetence.”

Argungu stressed that policing in today’s world requires skill, and officers aspiring to advance must be ready to meet the demands of the era. He also emphasized the Commission’s commitment to due diligence to ensure that no deceased or retired officer is promoted in error.

Present at the examination were Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (rtd), Justice Christine Ladi Dabup (rtd), DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), DIG Uba Bala Ringim (rtd), and Alhaji Abdulfatah Mohammed, all Honourable Commissioners of the Commission.
