Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have recorded another success in the fight against banditry and kidnapping in Benue State. The latest operation in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area led to the safe rescue of a kidnapped victim and the recovery of arms and ammunition from fleeing criminals.
The operation followed credible intelligence on the movement of suspected kidnappers terrorizing communities around Agera Nagu in Mbagina, Michihe Council Ward. Acting promptly, the troops, working in synergy with operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard (BSCPG), advanced to the identified location.
On arrival, they engaged the armed bandits in a fierce firefight. Overpowered by the superior firepower of the soldiers, the criminals fled the scene, abandoning their victim, 43-year-old Mr. Teryima Torbee, who was rescued unhurt. The swift intervention brought relief to residents who had been living under fear of further attacks.
During subsequent exploitation of the area, troops recovered one FN rifle, five magazines, and eighty-three rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition. The operation has since restored calm in the community, with troops maintaining aggressive patrols to reassure locals and deter further criminal activity.
The Force Commander, Major General Moses Gara, lauded the gallantry and professionalism of the troops, commending their swift response in ensuring the safe rescue of the victim and recovery of weapons. He also appreciated the support of the Civil Protection Guard and urged communities to continue sharing timely information with security agencies, stressing that collaboration and synergy are critical to defeating criminal gangs and restoring lasting peace across Benue and neighboring states.
