The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Gombe State Command, on Monday, September 22, 2025, joined the global community in commemorating the International Day of Peace with activities that included a peace road walk and a public lecture on the importance of peace to sustainable development.
The programme began at 8:30 a.m., shortly after the Monday morning briefing, with a symbolic road walk that commenced from the State Command Headquarters and extended through major streets of the state capital before terminating at the Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo Modern Mega Motor Park.
At the park, the State Commandant, Commandant Jibrin, delivered a lecture in line with this year’s theme, “Act Now for a Peaceful World.” He urged traditional leaders, religious figures, youth groups, civil society organisations, women associations, and all stakeholders to embrace dialogue over conflict, reject hate speech, promptly report criminal activities to security agencies, and support government efforts aimed at promoting peace.
Commandant Jibrin stressed that peace is not a sign of weakness but the foundation of progress, economic growth, and national unity. He noted that without peace, the aspirations for a prosperous Gombe State and a greater Nigeria would remain unattainable. He called on residents to take deliberate steps toward peace, reminding them that building harmony begins with the choices individuals make each day.
The Commandant also charged security personnel to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, neutrality, and respect for human rights in their operations, adding that security agencies play a crucial role in sustaining peace.
In their goodwill remarks, Dr. Sani Sabo, Sole Administrator and Manager of the Mega Motor Park, and DSC Usman Y. Shehu emphasised that peace remains the bedrock of development at community, state, and national levels. They commended the NSCDC for taking the peace campaign directly to the people.
Participants, including commercial drivers and community members present at the motor park, applauded the Corps for organising the event. They pledged to share the lessons of the day within their homes and communities as part of efforts to entrench peace.
The event was rounded off with the symbolic release of two pigeons by Commandant Jibrin and Dr. Sani Sabo, signifying freedom and harmony. The occasion ended with prayers for lasting peace, unity, and prosperity in Gombe State and Nigeria at large.
