The Abia State Government has donated two Hilux vehicles to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and one operational vehicle to the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Abia Command, to strengthen their operations.
Presenting the vehicles on behalf of Governor Alex Otti at Government House, Umuahia, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Navy Commander MacDonald Unah (Rtd.), urged the agencies to utilize them effectively in carrying out their mandates.
Unah, who was represented by the General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of the Abia State Homeland Security Agency, Col. Chidi Kalu Ukoha (Rtd.), said the Governor prioritizes the safety of lives and property and is committed to keeping the state secure.
“The state government is supporting these agencies with operational vehicles to help mitigate crime and nip it in the bud,” he said, stressing that security remains the catalyst for development as no socio-economic activity can thrive in an unsafe environment.
He further assured the NDLEA and Immigration Service of the Governor’s unwavering commitment to assisting federal security agencies in achieving their operational goals in the state.
Responding, the Controller of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Abia State Command, Mrs Justina Owe, expressed profound gratitude to Governor Otti for the gesture, describing it as timely and encouraging.
Similarly, the Commander of the NDLEA in Abia, Mr Joseph Owoputi, thanked the Governor for his intervention, noting that the vehicles would go a long way in helping them combat drug abuse and crime across the state.
It will be recalled that during Mr Owoputi’s recent courtesy visit to the Governor, Dr Otti had promised to provide operational vehicles to support the NDLEA in its activities.
