The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to enhancing the welfare of officers, soldiers, and their families across the country.

Speaking to journalists at the conclusion of his three-day operational visit to the Headquarters of the Nigerian Army 6 Division in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Oluyede stressed that the well-being of troops remains a top priority under his leadership.

The Army Chief, who commissioned several projects during the visit, explained that the tour was designed to assess the operational readiness of formations under the division, as well as to interact directly with troops and critical stakeholders in the Niger Delta.

According to him, the visit provided an opportunity to see firsthand the challenges confronting soldiers in the line of duty. He emphasized that addressing their welfare is central to sustaining high morale and ensuring effectiveness in military operations.

“I am very particular about the welfare of my soldiers and their families. This visit has enabled me to identify their challenges, and I will tackle them within the resources available to me as the leader of the Nigerian Army,” Oluyede assured.

He added: “I promise my soldiers that with the support of the Federal Government, I will do my best to make life better for them. That is why I came here, and I am satisfied that the purpose of this visit has been achieved.”

During the tour, the COAS commissioned several projects, including the newly constructed 6 Division Administration Building, a Filling Station, the Headquarters 6 Division Extension, Python Harmony House, the 6 Division Guard Room, two blocks of Corporal Below Quarters, renovated 10-Family Corporal Below Quarters, and the remodelled 29 Battalion Quarter Guard.

He also inaugurated additional facilities at the Elele Barracks, noting that the Nigerian Army will continue to build on its operational successes while prioritizing the welfare of its personnel.
