NSCDC Nabs Drug Peddler, House Burglar in Separate Operations Across Kano

By Kamaldeen Ibrahim, Kano

The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested two suspects in separate operations for drug trafficking and burglary.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, on Wednesday.

Abdullahi said the arrests were part of the Command’s intensified efforts to tackle crime across the state.

“In a recent breakthrough, NSCDC operatives apprehended two suspects for engaging in drug-related and criminal activities in different parts of Kano,” the statement read.

The first suspect, identified as Basiru Ahmed, 42, was arrested at Salanta in Gwale Local Government Area. He was allegedly caught with over 106 parcels of substances suspected to be Cannabis sativa (Indian hemp).

“Acting on credible intelligence, our operatives arrested the suspect while he was actively selling and distributing the illicit drug within the community,” the statement added.

The NSCDC confirmed that Ahmed has since been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.

In a separate incident, Muhammad Abbas, 22, was arrested in Gurungawa, Kumbotso Local Government Area, for allegedly breaking into homes and stealing property worth several hundreds of thousands of naira.

According to the NSCDC, Abbas had been on its watchlist and was eventually apprehended during a coordinated patrol aimed at curbing theft and burglary in the area.

Both suspects are expected to be arraigned in court after the conclusion of investigations.

The Command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies, noting that such cooperation is vital in the ongoing efforts to secure communities and dismantle criminal networks.
