The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says it destroyed a Boko Haram warehouse and killed several terrorists in a precision airstrike carried out in Borno State.
The targeted bombardments, which took place on June 5 and 6 in the Southern Tumbuns region of the state, were part of a coordinated effort to prevent attacks planned by the insurgents during the Eid celebrations.
According to the NAF, the airstrikes were executed after receiving credible intelligence on the locations of terrorist logistics hubs used for storing weapons and coordinating operations.
Edward Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, confirmed the success of the mission in a statement released on Saturday.
“In a series of precision airstrikes conducted on 5 and 6 June 2025, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), under Operation HADIN KAI, decimated key Boko Haram hideouts at Tumbumma Baba and Chiralia in the Southern Tumbuns, Borno State,” NAF said.
He explained that the strikes were focused on identified structures believed to be central to Boko Haram’s logistics and planning efforts.Related News
“Acting on credible intelligence, NAF aircraft targeted terrorist structures reportedly used for storage and coordination, delivering direct hits and crippling planned attacks aimed at disrupting Eid celebrations,” NAF noted.
The NAF added that the airstrikes not only led to the destruction of vital terrorist infrastructure but also neutralised a significant number of insurgents, thereby disrupting their operational capabilities in the region.
“Battle Damage Assessments confirmed the neutralisation of several terrorists and the destruction of key logistics structures.
“This pre-emptive action underscores the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to safeguarding civilian lives and supporting national security objectives,” the Force added.
According to security analysts, the Southern Tumbuns, located along the Lake Chad basin, have long served as strategic hideouts for Boko Haram and its splinter groups due to their difficult terrain and proximity to international borders.
Security analysts noted that the timing of the operation, coming just days before Eid-el-Kabir festivities, likely prevented large-scale attacks that could have marred the religious celebrations and claimed civilian lives.
