Plateau State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ishaku Musa, has implored parents to maintain strict surveillance and regulation over the content their children explore on social media, emphasizing that this measure would help protect them from vulnerability to cybercrime perpetrators.
Commandant Musa, who spoke yesterday in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, against the backdrop of the prevailing cybercrime, disclosed that social media has exposed children to numerous platforms where they can engage in social vices and crimes without their parents’ knowledge. Hence, the need for strict monitoring of their activities on social media.
“The advent of social media has introduced a new dimension to children’s exposure. It provides platforms where children can engage in social vices and crimes without their parents’ knowledge. In the era of social media, a child does not need to leave the house to commit crimes or engage in unlawful activities, as parents are expected to know where their children go, who their friends are, and what they do,” Commandant Musa counselled.
