PUT NATIONAL INTEREST ABOVE ALL, GOC CHARGES TROOPS…As He Bids Farewell to 6 Division

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Jamal Abdussalam has charged troops of 6 Division to continue to put national interest above all other considerations, while discharging their responsibilities. He gave the charge at 16 Brigade in Yenagoa, today, 16 January 2025, while delivering his farewell address to troops.

Speaking further, Major General Abdussalam urged them to avoid compromise and ensure zero connivance with economic saboteurs in the region. He reminded troops on the need to remain professional and committed to the realisation of the 2.3million barrel per day (bpd) target set by the Federal Government of Nigeria, which is the benchmark for the national budget. This, he restated, is achievable given the good work that troops have been doing over time in the region. He maintained that if the benchmark is achieved, it will be for the benefit and common good of all Nigerians, as the economy will blossom.

The GOC recalled the tremendous effort of troops, which led to an increase in oil output. He stated that currently, output has risen to over 1.88 million bpd compared to 1.2 million a year back. Thankfully, he said, these achievements couldn’t have been possible without the good work the troops have been doing in the region This he averred has significantly reduced illegal bunkering activities, economic sabotage and associated criminalities in the region. He expressed his nostalgic feelings with the feedback from the general public, attesting to the fact that the atmosphere is cleaner as issues relating to black soot have been reduced in the region. This, he said, boils down to the good work the NA is doing. He charged troops to continue to sustain the trajectory, adding that it is only through collective efforts that the desired end-state would be achieved.

Major General Abdussalam saluted the resilience and commitment of the troops as they toiled through the treacherous terrain in the region to protect critical national assets and infrastructures. He added that, as he bows out as the GOC, he is proud that the troops have put in their best in the service of motherland. He retorted that posting is a routine in the NA, urging them to accord the incoming GOC the same cooperation they accorded him to succeed. He also called on troops to remain disciplined, committed, and professional in discharging their responsibilities. The call became necessary in order to effectively project the positive image of the NA, he said.

The GOC also visited sister Services for his farewell visit. These include Mobility Command of the Nigerian Air force, where he met the Air Officer Commanding, Air Vice Marshal, Sunday Aneke, Central Naval Command, Nigerian Navy, where he also interacted with the Flag Officer Commanding, Rear Admiral Ahmad Gaya and Headquarters, Joint Task Force, South South, Operation DELTA SAFE, where he visited the Commander, Joint Task Force, Rear Admiral John Okeke.
