The Nigerian Army and the Indonesian Armed Forces have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral defence relations, with both countries exploring new areas of military cooperation aimed at enhancing capacity building, professional training and regional security.The renewed partnership was highlighted during a high level engagement between senior military officials of both nations, where discussions focused on expanding defence collaboration, intelligence sharing, counter terrorism operations and military education. The meeting underscored the longstanding cordial relationship between Nigeria and Indonesia and the need to leverage mutual experiences in addressing emerging security challenges.Speaking during the engagement, military representatives from both countries stressed the importance of international cooperation in tackling transnational threats such as terrorism, insurgency, maritime insecurity, cybercrime and organised criminal activities. They noted that closer defence ties would not only improve operational effectiveness but also contribute to peace, stability and economic development within their respective regions.The Nigerian Army commended Indonesia’s achievements in military modernisation, peace support operations and strategic defence management, expressing interest in deeper collaboration in specialised training programmes, exchange of military personnel and joint professional development initiatives. The Army leadership maintained that exposure to global best practices remains critical to building a highly professional and combat ready force capable of addressing contemporary security threats.On its part, the Indonesian military delegation reaffirmed its country’s readiness to strengthen existing military relations with Nigeria. The delegation expressed confidence that increased cooperation would create opportunities for knowledge exchange, defence technology collaboration and stronger institutional partnerships between both armed forces.Both sides also discussed avenues for expanding cooperation in defence diplomacy, military research and strategic studies. They agreed that sustained engagement and regular interactions would further consolidate the relationship and provide a framework for addressing common security concerns through collective action and mutual support.The meeting concluded with a renewed pledge by the Nigerian Army and the Indonesian Armed Forces to deepen defence cooperation in line with the broader diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Indonesia.
