The Minister of Police Affairs has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the welfare, working conditions and professional wellbeing of serving and retired police personnel following a meeting with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

The minister disclosed this after receiving the IGP, who paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Police Affairs.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both officials to reaffirm their commitment to strengthening inter-agency collaboration, improving institutional coordination and advancing initiatives aimed at enhancing the operational effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force.

During the engagement, Disu reportedly highlighted several critical issues requiring the ministry’s attention, particularly police housing, pension administration, infrastructure development and improved welfare for serving and retired personnel.

The minister acknowledged the importance of the issues raised, stressing that the welfare, dignity and professional wellbeing of police officers and men must remain central to efforts to strengthen the country’s policing system.

He noted that personnel who risk their lives to protect citizens, maintain public order and safeguard national security deserved adequate institutional support, decent accommodation and effective welfare provisions. The minister assured the IGP of his readiness to facilitate prompt administrative action and appropriate ministerial intervention on the concerns raised.

He also pledged to engage relevant stakeholders and institutions towards developing practical and sustainable solutions to the challenges confronting police personnel.

According to the minister, strengthening the Nigeria Police Force requires more than improving its operational capacity, as sustained investment in personnel welfare, housing, pension arrangements, infrastructure and professional development is equally essential. He emphasised the need for continuous collaboration between the Ministry of Police Affairs and the police leadership to translate policy commitments into tangible improvements in the lives of officers and men. The minister reiterated that the government’s commitment was to support a more professional, efficient and adequately equipped police force capable of responding effectively to the country’s security challenges.

He added that ensuring the welfare and institutional support of police personnel remained fundamental to building public confidence, improving service delivery and strengthening Nigeria’s overall security architecture.
