The Nigerian Navy, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, has intercepted two vehicles transporting approximately 8,500 litres of petroleum products suspected to have been illegally refined along the Ejemekuru–Obudi-Agwa axis of Imo State.
The operation, carried out on 21 August 2026 by personnel of Naval Base (NB) Oguta and the Nigerian Army, resulted in the interception of a tipper truck and a Toyota Hiace bus conveying about 150 bags of the suspected products. Three suspects were arrested during the operation, while several occupants of the second vehicle escaped and abandoned the vehicle.
The arrested suspects, recovered vehicles and seized petroleum products have been taken into custody for further investigation and appropriate action in line with established legal procedures.
The successful operation highlights the effectiveness of sustained inter-service collaboration and intelligence-driven security efforts aimed at disrupting the illegal transportation of petroleum products and preventing criminal elements from exploiting established routes for economic sabotage.
The Nigerian Navy reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in the fight against crude oil theft, illegal refining activities and the illicit movement of petroleum products. The Service also pledged to continue safeguarding Nigeria’s critical economic assets and protecting national interests.
