The emergence of Otunba Udomah James Uduak as the new Commander General and Chairman of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) heralds a new era of purpose, professionalism, and transformational leadership within one of Nigeria’s most respected community-based security organizations. Widely regarded as a seasoned security administrator, accomplished entrepreneur, and grassroots mobilizer, his elevation represents the culmination of decades of dedicated service to community policing, public safety, and national development. Across the ranks and file of the organization, his emergence has been warmly received as a well-deserved recognition of a leader whose commitment to the VGN has remained unwavering through the years.
A native of Ikot Ofon Ikono in Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Otunba Udomah has built an impressive profile that combines academic excellence, professional competence, and practical leadership experience. His educational qualifications include a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management from Lagos State University, an Advanced Diploma in Security Operations and Management from the University of Lagos, a Diploma in Security Management, and a Specialist Certificate in Security Operations. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Security Nigeria, having progressed through the ranks from Associate Member to Professional Member and Specialist Member, a testament to his dedication to continuous professional development and excellence in security practice.
Long before his emergence as Commander General, Udomah distinguished himself as one of the most influential voices within the Vigilante Group of Nigeria. Over the years, he championed the cause of community policing, intelligence-driven security operations, and strategic collaboration between vigilante personnel and conventional security agencies. His advocacy for stronger community-based security structures and greater recognition for vigilante services helped strengthen the relevance of the VGN in Nigeria’s security architecture. He was also among those who consistently promoted the integration of grassroots intelligence into national security efforts and called for enhanced support, training, and motivation for vigilante personnel.
His leadership credentials were further demonstrated through his service as Deputy National Chairman and Deputy Commandant General of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, where he played a critical role in organizational development, operational coordination, and personnel management. Colleagues and subordinates alike describe him as a leader who combines firmness with compassion, discipline with accessibility, and vision with action. These qualities earned him widespread respect and acceptance among officers at national, zonal, state, and local government levels, making his emergence as Commander General a natural and widely supported progression.
Beyond his security engagements, Hon. Udomah has successfully established and managed thriving enterprises in the security, automobile, and oil and gas sectors. As Chief Executive Officer of ETPO Security Limited, ETPO Motors Nigeria Limited, and ETPO Ventures, he has demonstrated exceptional organizational and managerial capacity. These achievements have equipped him with the strategic leadership skills necessary to oversee a large and complex national institution while promoting efficiency, accountability, and sustainable growth.
His exposure to international best practices has further strengthened his leadership profile. As a member of the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS), he has participated in professional conferences and engagements in the United Kingdom, the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Germany. These experiences broadened his understanding of modern security management, organizational leadership, and global trends in community policing, providing valuable insights that he now brings to the leadership of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria.
The confidence reposed in him by the rank and file of the organization is rooted not merely in his position but in his proven record of service. Throughout his career, he has remained accessible to officers at all levels, consistently advocating for their welfare, training, and professional advancement. His ability to unite diverse interests within the organization and inspire a shared sense of purpose has contributed significantly to the broad acceptance that greeted his emergence as Commander General.
At the heart of his leadership agenda is a bold vision to reposition the Vigilante Group of Nigeria as a modern, technologically enabled, professionally trained, and highly disciplined community security organization. He envisions a VGN that will deepen its collaboration with security agencies, strengthen intelligence gathering at the grassroots level, expand training opportunities for personnel, and embrace technology as a critical tool for crime prevention and community protection. This vision aligns with the VGN’s longstanding role as a nationwide grassroots security institution operating across the country.
Hon. Udomah is equally passionate about youth empowerment, community engagement, and humanitarian service. He believes that effective security goes beyond crime prevention and must include meaningful efforts to address social challenges, create opportunities for young people, and promote community development. Under his leadership, the VGN is expected to strengthen its role as a trusted partner in building safer, more resilient, and more prosperous communities.
As he assumes the mantle of leadership, expectations are high, but so too is the confidence of members and stakeholders who have witnessed his journey and contributions over the years. With his rich educational background, extensive security experience, entrepreneurial success, and proven commitment to service, Hon. Udomah James Uduak stands poised to lead the Vigilante Group of Nigeria into a new era of innovation, professionalism, unity, and national relevance. His emergence is not merely a change of leadership—it is the beginning of a new dawn for the Vigilante Group of Nigeria and a renewed promise of stronger community security across the nation.
