FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE SENSITISES SET RIGHT MODEL SCHOOL, ILORIN ON FIRE SAFETY AND PREVENTION


The Federal Fire Service, Kwara State Command, under the leadership of the State Controller, ACF Mary Bakare, on Thursday, 21st May, 2026, carried out a fire safety sensitisation exercise for staff and students of Set Right Model School, Ilorin, covering both the primary and secondary sections.
The programme was aimed at strengthening fire prevention awareness and promoting safety consciousness among pupils, students, and staff within the school environment.
The sensitisation session was led by DSF Rukayat Jimoh, who delivered a detailed lecture on fire safety, explaining the causes of fire outbreaks, their effects, preventive strategies, and effective control measures. She emphasised the need for continuous safety awareness as a key responsibility in protecting lives and property.
Also speaking, ASF II Ganiyat Olayiwola educated participants on practical fire safety measures required in schools, homes, and workplaces, stressing the importance of vigilance and early prevention in reducing fire-related incidents.
In his presentation, DSF Ojo Taiwo highlighted the importance of having functional portable fire extinguishers in strategic locations such as schools, homes, offices, and vehicles. He also underscored the need for proper training on the use of firefighting equipment, while reaffirming the Command’s readiness to respond swiftly to emergencies.
The proprietress of the school, Dr. Abosede Shittu, speaking on behalf of the management, commended the Federal Fire Service for the initiative. She appreciated the Command for prioritising safety education and assured that the school would fully implement the lessons learned while extending fire safety awareness to surrounding communities.
The programme concluded with a practical demonstration by AIF Ibrahim Bello, who showcased the correct use of fire extinguishers and fire blankets in controlling fire outbreaks at their early stages in homes, schools, workplaces, and other environments.
