Kano Emirate: Bayero Notifies Police, DSS of Planned 2026 Eid-el-Kabir Durbar

The 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, has formally notified security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS), of plans to hold the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir Durbar celebrations in Kano.
The notification, which was conveyed through official correspondence, stated that the annual cultural and religious festivities would commence from the Nasarawa Palace in Kano, in line with long-standing tradition associated with the emirate.
The Emir explained that the Durbar activities would feature the traditional horse procession, homage by district heads and cultural displays usually organised during major Islamic festivities in the state. He added that the event is expected to attract thousands of residents, visitors and tourists from within and outside Kano State.
According to the palace, the decision to inform security agencies ahead of the celebrations was aimed at ensuring adequate security arrangements, peaceful conduct and proper coordination throughout the period of the festivities.
The Emir also urged residents and participants to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security operatives deployed for the event. He stressed the importance of maintaining peace, unity and mutual respect during the Sallah celebrations.
Meanwhile, security agencies are expected to assess the situation and put necessary measures in place to guarantee public safety before and during the Durbar activities. Sources close to the palace disclosed that consultations with relevant stakeholders are ongoing to ensure a hitch-free celebration.
Traditional leaders and community groups in Kano have also welcomed the development, describing the Durbar as an important cultural heritage that promotes unity, tourism and the preservation of the emirate’s history and traditions.
The Eid-el-Kabir Durbar in Kano remains one of the most recognised cultural festivals in Northern Nigeria, drawing dignitaries, tourists and cultural enthusiasts annually to witness the colourful displays of horsemanship and royal pageantry.
