A delegation from the People’s Security Monitor led by retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Wilson Inalegwu, on Friday paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, in Abuja as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between the organisation and the nation’s security institutions.
The visit centred on expanding the working relationship between the People’s Security Monitor and the Nigerian military in the areas of national security advocacy, public enlightenment, and strategic support for ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity across the country.
Speaking during the meeting, the Chief Operating Officer and Editor-in-Chief of People’s Security Monitor, Isiaka Mustapha, commended the leadership of General Christopher Musa, describing his performance as Defence Minister as focused, patriotic, and impactful in the nation’s ongoing fight against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other security threats.
Mustapha stated that the People’s Security Monitor remained committed to promoting responsible security journalism and constructive engagement with the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies. According to him, the military had continued to make enormous sacrifices in defence of the country and deserved sustained public support as well as objective media representation.
He further explained that the organisation’s relationship with the military had grown steadily through security engagements, policy discussions, and coverage of military operations aimed at restoring peace and stability in troubled parts of the country. He noted that the platform would continue to serve as a bridge between the public and security institutions by encouraging informed national conversations on security governance and national resilience.
Mustapha also used the opportunity to brief the Defence Minister on the forthcoming People’s Security Monitor Annual Security Conference and the public presentation of a book titled, “The Defender of the Nation: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Three Year Onslaught Against Insecurity.” He explained that the event would focus on evaluating Nigeria’s security architecture, the contributions of security agencies, and the progress recorded under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He also extolled the virtues of Wilson Inalegwu, describing him as a disciplined and highly respected retired police officer whose distinguished service in the Nigeria Police Force reflected professionalism, courage, and commitment to national security. According to Mustapha, Inalegwu’s vast experience in policing and intelligence management remained valuable to ongoing discussions on security reforms and inter agency cooperation.
In his remarks, Christopher Musa commended the role of the media in supporting national security efforts and stressed the importance of stronger collaboration among security stakeholders, civil society organisations, and the press in addressing emerging security challenges confronting the country.
