Federal Fire Service Introduces Mandatory Fire Warden Training for Organisations Nationwide

ThBy Samuel Ike, Abuja

The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has unveiled a mandatory Fire Warden Training programme for organisations across Nigeria as part of efforts to strengthen fire safety awareness, enhance emergency preparedness, and reduce the incidence of fire-related disasters.

The initiative is designed to equip designated personnel within organisations with the knowledge and practical skills required to prevent, respond to, and manage fire emergencies effectively. Through the training, Fire Wardens will be empowered to coordinate evacuation procedures, conduct basic fire safety inspections, and serve as first responders during emergencies.

According to the Service, the programme forms part of a broader strategy to promote a culture of safety in workplaces, public institutions, and private establishments, while ensuring compliance with national fire safety regulations.

The Federal Fire Service noted that organisations are expected to nominate personnel for the training, which will cover fire prevention measures, emergency response techniques, evacuation management, and the proper use of firefighting equipment.

The Service expressed confidence that the mandatory training will significantly improve fire safety standards across the country and contribute to the protection of lives, property, and critical infrastructure.
