A large scale security operation has been launched in Nasarawa State following the abduction of six students of the Faculty of Engineering, Gudi Campus of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, by suspected armed kidnappers.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday night when a group of armed men stormed a student lodge located at Anguwar Ninzo in Gudi, on the outskirts of the community, and whisked away the victims at gunpoint.
The Public Relations Officer of the Nasarawa State Police Command, Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the development in a statement issued to journalists in Lafia on Thursday.
He disclosed that the command received a distress call at about 9 pm on 6 May 2026, reporting that unidentified gunmen had invaded the lodge and abducted several students.
According to him, “So far, six victims have been identified, all students of the Faculty of Engineering at Gudi Campus of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, along with one additional victim who was reportedly visiting one of the students at the time of the attack.”
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, visited the scene for an on the spot assessment and assured the university community and residents that security agencies were working tirelessly to secure the safe rescue of the abducted students.
The Police Command further confirmed that the Area Commander in Akwanga had been redeployed to coordinate field operations in the affected area pending the outcome of the rescue mission.
A combined security task force comprising personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, the military, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and local vigilante groups has also been mobilised to intensify search and rescue efforts.
The Command urged members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and security conscious, while appealing for credible information that could assist ongoing operations to be promptly reported to the nearest security formation.
It added that further updates would be provided as investigations and rescue efforts continue.
