The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has sought enhanced collaboration with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Delta State Command, to strengthen the protection of power infrastructure and improve operational efficiency across the state.
The Regional Manager of BEDC, Asaba Region, Mr. Jeffrey Nwainokpor, made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the Delta State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Chinedu F. Igbo, at the Command Headquarters in Asaba.
Speaking during the visit, Nwainokpor described the NSCDC as a critical stakeholder in the power sector, noting that the Corps plays a vital role in safeguarding electricity infrastructure and supporting the smooth operation of electricity distribution services.
He stressed that the NSCDC’s mandate extends beyond the protection of power installations, adding that the agency’s support is also crucial in addressing challenges that may arise during BEDC’s enforcement and operational activities.
According to him, stronger collaboration between the two organisations would help improve service delivery, enhance the security of electricity assets, and ensure a more effective response to incidents affecting power distribution within the Asaba Region.
Nwainokpor therefore called for renewed synergy and cooperation between BEDC and the NSCDC to address emerging challenges in the sector and strengthen the protection of critical power infrastructure.
Responding, Commandant Chinedu Igbo welcomed the BEDC Regional Manager and reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, including electricity facilities across Delta State.
He noted that power installations remain strategic national assets that are essential to economic development and public welfare, making their protection a priority for the NSCDC.
The Commandant assured BEDC of the Command’s continued support, stressing that the Corps would further strengthen efforts aimed at safeguarding power facilities from vandalism, theft, and other criminal activities.
He also pledged sustained collaboration with BEDC to ensure the security of electricity infrastructure and create an enabling environment for efficient power distribution across the region.
The meeting underscored the importance of inter-agency cooperation in protecting critical national infrastructure and enhancing service delivery within Nigeria’s power sector.
