The Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Samuel Adeyemi Olumode, on Monday honoured the Chief Operating Officer/Editor-In-Chief of People’s Security Monitor, Isiaka Mustapha, during activities marking the 2026 World Firefighters Day celebration held in Abuja. The decoration was described as a recognition of Mustapha’s sustained contribution towards promoting public safety awareness, security advocacy, and support for emergency response initiatives across the country.
Speaking during the commemorative event, Olumode commended firefighters and emergency responders for their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to safeguarding lives and property under difficult conditions. He noted that World Firefighters Day serves as an important platform to honour officers who daily place themselves in harm’s way to protect citizens, while also encouraging stronger collaboration between security institutions, the media, and civil society organisations.
The Federal Fire Service boss further praised People’s Security Monitor for its consistent reportage and advocacy on issues relating to national security, disaster management, and public safety enlightenment. According to him, the organisation has continued to play a strategic role in projecting the achievements and operational efforts of security and emergency agencies, thereby strengthening public confidence and awareness.
Responding after the decoration, Mustapha expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Federal Fire Service for the recognition, describing the honour as a call for greater commitment towards advancing public safety campaigns and constructive security journalism. He reaffirmed the commitment of People’s Security Monitor to supporting initiatives aimed at improving emergency preparedness, fire prevention education, and national security consciousness among Nigerians.
The World Firefighters Day celebration attracted senior government officials, security chiefs, emergency management stakeholders, media practitioners, and members of the public who gathered to celebrate the resilience and dedication of firefighters across the country. The event also featured goodwill messages, special recognitions, and renewed calls for increased investment in modern firefighting equipment, personnel training, and community based fire prevention strategies in Nigeria.
