State Police Framework: Presidential Working Group to Brief Media on Progress

The Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill is set to brief journalists on progress made toward developing the legal framework for the implementation of state police across Nigeria.
The briefing follows the inauguration of the Presidential Working Group by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on July 7, 2026, with the mandate to formulate the legislative and policy framework required for the establishment and operation of state police nationwide.
Since its inauguration, the committee has commenced deliberations and consultations aimed at addressing the legal, institutional and operational issues associated with the proposed policing reform.
According to a statement, the Chairman of the Working Group and Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, will lead other members of the committee to brief members of the State House Press Corps on the progress achieved so far.
The briefing is expected to feature contributions from governors and other senior government officials who are members of the Working Group and are directly involved in shaping the proposed state policing framework.
The engagement is expected to provide updates on the committee’s activities, ongoing consultations and the roadmap for the implementation of one of the most significant security reforms being considered in Nigeria’s democratic history.
