Mother of Slain Delta Musician Demands Justice, Calls for Death Sentence for Officers Involved

A grieving mother of a young Delta State musician, Oghenemine Ogidi, has called for the execution of the police officers involved in the killing of her son, insisting they should face the same fate he suffered.

Ogidi, a 28 year old musician also known by his stage names Mene and OG Millan, was shot dead on 26 April 2026 in Effurun, Warri, Delta State, by Assistant Superintendent of Police Nuhu Usman.

He had been arrested on suspicion of attempting to convey a parcel allegedly containing a Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition. The incident escalated into a fatal shooting while he was reportedly in handcuffs.

A video of the incident, which circulated widely on social media, showed the victim restrained and pleading before being shot twice. The footage triggered public outrage and renewed concerns over police conduct and extrajudicial killings.

Speaking in an interview with News Central on Friday, his mother said she was aware that no outcome could restore her son’s life, but insisted she wanted accountability.

She called for those linked to the incident, including the driver who transported the suspect and the chairman of the park where the arrest occurred, to be investigated and prosecuted.

She also demanded the prosecution of all officers present at the scene, stating that both the officer who cocked the weapon and the one who discharged it must face justice.

In a further escalation of her demand, she insisted that the officers should suffer the same manner of death as her son.

Following public reaction to the incident, the Delta State Police Command arrested the officer involved and transferred him to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for disciplinary proceedings.

Police spokesperson Bright Edafe confirmed that the officer would face murder charges, while the Commissioner of Police described the incident as an extrajudicial killing and assured the family of justice.
