Troops Recover Body of Missing Hunter in Plateau Community

Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation Safe Haven have recovered the body of a 30 year old hunter, Elisha Abbah, in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State following a distress report by residents.

Security sources disclosed that the incident was reported on April 17 by a community leader in the Dan Tanko area, who alerted authorities to the discovery of a lifeless body dumped in a pit near Ariri village. Troops deployed to the scene confirmed the presence of the corpse, which was subsequently identified as Abbah, a native of the community.

Preliminary findings indicated that the deceased had gone on a hunting expedition with a 26 year old companion, Yakubu Etsi, in a nearby bush before the incident occurred. The two men reportedly separated during the hunt, a common practice among local hunters, before the situation turned fatal later that night. According to a source, the surviving hunter heard gunshots at about 11 p.m. from the direction where his companion had gone but assumed he had safely returned home.

Concern arose the following morning when Abbah failed to return, prompting a search that led to the discovery of his body. Authorities have since commenced preliminary inquiries to determine the circumstances surrounding the killing.

The development comes amid persistent security concerns in parts of Plateau State, where incidents of violence have continued to affect rural communities. Security agencies have maintained ongoing operations aimed at stabilising the area and preventing further attacks.

In a related development, tensions were heightened in Jos North following the killing of a member of the National Youth Service Corps, identified as Haruna Ibrahim, during unrest in the Anguwan Rukuba area. The incident reportedly occurred on the day he was scheduled to participate in his Passing Out Parade, marking the completion of his national service.
