Management staff of NSCDC Katsina Command, the good people of Katsina State, Officers and men of NSCDC, members of the press, I welcome you to the NSCDC Katsina Command Headquarters, Katsina for this important briefing.
It has become necessary for all sensible Nigerians to take note of Nigeria’s current socioeconomic, security and political situation and work towards ensuring a better tomorrow for the people of this country. The serious situation has led to a looming protest, expected to commence from 1st August 2024, being organized by some concerned citizens of our great nation to bring the attention of our leaders to take decisive measures to alleviate the problems and bring peace and prosperity to the nations.
While the right to express ourselves, is our constitutional right, let us not forget that the expression of this right must be done within the ambit of the law. Protests are simultaneous or unpredictable activities where some protesters intend to engage in peaceful protest. However, as we have seen on more than one occasion, criminals usually disguise as part of protesters to cause havoc and commit crimes such as the destruction of critical national assets and infrastructure to theft, and other untoward acts that may have a lasting effect on peace, order and socioeconomic development of the society.
Based on this, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Katsina Command in collaboration with other security agencies had concluded all plans to ensure maximum security against any form of crime and criminalities that could threaten law and order, destruction or any act of sabotage towards our critical national assets and infrastructures, vital public and private facilities, or prevent law-abiding citizens from their lawful activities.
The Command had detailed an adequate number of armed, unarmed and undercover operatives to achieve these objectives, and to provide a conducive atmosphere for the Nigerians to conduct their lawful activities, including their right to protest.
On this note, let me use this opportunity to admonish our teeming youth participating in the protest, to resist any temptation or inducements by some unpatriotic element to engage them in any act that could undermine our peaceful coexistence and socioeconomic development. Ditto this, the Command is ready to deal decisively with any criminal trying to cause havoc or destruction of public utilities and other critical national assets and infrastructures. To this aim, the Command has directed all its formations to deploy armed operatives to critical assets and infrastructures like Electricity Transmission and distribution facilities, agricultural and water supply facilities, government buildings, religious places, Custodial centres, hospitals, financial institutions, markets, and motor parks.
Finally, I want to assure the general public that, NSCDC is a professional organization that operates based on the rule of law and as such our operatives must act according to the standard operating procedure, ethical codes and other guidelines as directed by our amiable Commandant General Ahmed Abubakar Audi PhD, mni, OFR. The Corps will not condone any incidence of human rights violation or bullying by its operatives, and anyone found wanting, in this regard, will be sanctioned, accordingly.
Thank you
Jamilu A. Indabawa
Katsina State Commandant
