The Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport (NACST) bid a formal and vibrant farewell to 18 of its distinguished retired generals on Thursday, March 26, 2026. The dual-event celebration, featuring a ceremonial Pulling-out Parade and an elegant Gala Night, took place at the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport in Benin City, Edo State.
Leading the honorees, the Reviewing Officer, Major General Olaniyi Michael Dare (Rtd), described the parade as a deeply significant military tradition marking the conclusion of decades of active service. He reflected on the weight of their responsibilities, noting that these officers were the backbone of troop sustainability across national and international operations. General Dare also extended heartfelt gratitude to the families of the retirees, whose resilience allowed these officers to serve the nation with distinction.
The festivities transitioned to the Muhammadu Buhari Auditorium for a Gala Night hosted by the Commander, Corps of Supply and Transport, Major General Nansak Danjuma Shagaya. General Shagaya emphasized that the evening was not just a tribute to the individuals, but a celebration of the enduring excellence of the institution they helped build.
Representing the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Major General Abdullahi Garba Ibrahim praised the NACST for its unwavering logistics support and operational efficiency. He noted that such gatherings are vital for reinforcing the “bonds of brotherhood” and maintaining the high standards of the Nigerian Army. This sentiment was echoed by the Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, who remarked through his representative that while these generals are leaving active duty, their roles as mentors and custodians of wisdom remain more vital than ever.
The ceremony honored four Major Generals—OM Dare, EA Anaryu, UT Otaru, and E Akerejola—alongside 14 Brigadier Generals. The event drew a prestigious crowd of military top brass, including General Officers Commanding and various Corps Commanders, alongside heads of paramilitary agencies. The day’s activities were punctuated by precise military drills, cultural dances, and the traditional ceremonial pulling-out, symbolizing the retirees’ successful transition to civilian life after a lifetime of sacrifice.
