Delta Police Clamp Down on Traffic Violators, Prosecute 68 Offenders

By Isreal Ojeh, Asaba, Delta State

The Delta State Police Command has intensified its enforcement of traffic laws, leading to the prosecution of no fewer than 68 offenders across the state.

The offenders were arraigned on Saturday at Mobile Courts in Warri and Asaba, as well as at a Magistrate Court in Okwe, following a statewide traffic enforcement operation.

The exercise, carried out in collaboration with designated judges and magistrates, is part of efforts by the state government to curb the rising incidence of traffic violations and improve road safety.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, on Sunday.

According to the statement, the offenders were arrested for various traffic-related offences. These include seven individuals charged with unauthorised use of number plates, five for driving against traffic, and 15 for operating vehicles without registration numbers.

Others include two persons for the illegal use of sirens and revolving lights, 15 for road obstruction, 13 for driving with covered number plates, and 11 for driving without valid driver’s licences.

The police spokesperson noted that vehicles with unregistered or concealed number plates are often used to commit crimes and evade security checks.

“All offenders were fined in line with the provisions of the Delta State Traffic Management Law and the National Road Traffic Regulations, reinforcing the consequences of violating traffic laws,” the statement said.

The command also revealed that it is strengthening collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Delta State Traffic Management Agency to enhance enforcement and improve public safety.

According to the police, the partnership aims to ensure coordinated operations, reduce traffic-related incidents, and boost security on roads across the state.

Motorists were urged to comply with traffic regulations, properly register their vehicles, and always carry valid driver’s licences.

The command reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on traffic violations, warning that strict enforcement would continue in order to protect lives and maintain order on Delta roads.
