Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have neutralised two suspected terrorists, recovered an AK-47 rifle and other ammunition during a security operation in Plateau State.
According to an operational report obtained on Tuesday, the operation took place on August 10 in Nwur village, Langtang North Local Government Area of the state.
The report stated that the troops had moved into the area alongside an arrested suspected bandit to recover a rifle he allegedly concealed within the community.
However, as the troops approached the village, they reportedly came under attack from armed elements. The soldiers responded with superior firepower, killing two of the attackers during the ensuing gun battle.
The report further disclosed that the arrested suspect who accompanied the troops on the recovery mission was also killed in the exchange of fire, while no military personnel sustained injuries.
Following the operation, troops conducted a search of the area and recovered one AK-47 rifle, a magazine and two rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
Security forces have since intensified efforts to track down and neutralise other members of the suspected criminal group who fled the scene, the report added.
