NSCDC, Lagos Infrastructure Office Partner to Tackle Road and Bridge Vandalism

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, has strengthened its collaboration with the Lagos State Government Office of Infrastructure to curb the growing menace of vandalism affecting roads, bridges, and other critical infrastructure across the state.
During a strategic meeting held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Olufemi Olubunmi Daramola, met with the Lagos State Commandant of the NSCDC, Adedotun Keshinro, and his management team to strengthen cooperation in protecting key public infrastructure.
Daramola emphasized the importance of synergy between the Office of Infrastructure and the NSCDC, particularly during road construction projects, to prevent the destruction of fibre-optic cables and other critical national assets. He noted that cases of vandalism involving manholes on roads, bridge cover slabs, and illegal occupation of spaces under bridges have become a growing concern that requires coordinated action.
According to him, effective collaboration among the Office of Infrastructure, the NSCDC, and other relevant government agencies will enhance operational coordination and protect the state from the damaging effects of vandalism, which poses serious threats to communities and public safety.
In his response, Commandant Keshinro reaffirmed the readiness of the NSCDC Lagos State Command to work closely with the Office of Infrastructure to safeguard critical infrastructure. He expressed confidence that the partnership would help significantly reduce the vandalism of road and bridge facilities across the state.
Keshinro also advised the state government to collaborate with the Nigerian Communications Commission to properly identify fibre-optic cables installed underground. This, he explained, would help prevent their accidental destruction during road construction and maintenance projects.
He further disclosed that the NSCDC Lagos Command has already conducted about 32 community engagement sessions with stakeholders, including facility owners, operators, scrap dealers, religious organisations, traditional leaders, and other security agencies. The engagements were carried out in line with directives from the Office of the National Security Adviser on the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure.
At the end of the meeting, both agencies resolved to strengthen communication channels and establish a joint technical committee that will develop operational strategies for protecting roads, bridges, and other vital infrastructure from vandalism in Lagos State.
Also present at the meeting were the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Infrastructure, Engr. O.O. Oyenuga, alongside directors and deputy directors from the office. Representing the NSCDC were the Head of the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Department, Deputy Commandant of Corps Kolawole Agbetiloye, and the Officer in Charge of Power, Assistant Commandant of Corps Ogunyinka Joseph.
