Governor Agbu Kefas has pledged to deploy security personnel to Chanchanji in Takum to enable displaced farmers return safely to their homes and farmlands. The governor also promised to provide relief materials to residents who were forced to flee their communities due to prolonged insecurity.
The development was disclosed by the governor’s Special Assistant on Digital Economy and State Coordinator of the Made in Nigeria Special Project Office, Justin Aondoaseer Tyopuusu. He explained that the intervention is part of efforts by the state government to restore normalcy and rebuild confidence among residents affected by the security challenges.
In a statement issued to journalists in Jalingo on Thursday, Tyopuusu commended Governor Kefas for his courageous and compassionate visit to Chanchanji Ward after about four months of persistent attacks that displaced several families and disrupted economic activities in the area. He said the governor’s actions demonstrate a strong commitment to the safety and welfare of the people.
Tyopuusu recalled that Governor Kefas recently visited the community alongside Hyacinth Alia, where both leaders interacted with internally displaced persons who had fled repeated attacks. According to him, the visit was more than symbolic, as it reflected leadership, solidarity, and inter-state cooperation in addressing insecurity along the border communities of Taraba State and Benue State.
He added that the two governors agreed to establish a joint peace committee with representatives from both states to pursue lasting security solutions. Tyopuusu also praised Governor Kefas for the peaceful conduct of the ruling party’s ward, local government, and state congresses across Taraba State, congratulating the newly elected State Chairman, Abubakar Bawa, and the State Women Leader, Margaret Mchivga, who hails from Chanchanji Ward.
