The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Delta State Command, has successfully concluded activities marking the 2026 International Civil Defence Organisation (ICDO) Day with a well-attended anniversary lecture at the State Command Headquarters.
The event, organised under the leadership of Commandant Chinedu F. Igbo, featured two lecture sessions aimed at deepening officers’ understanding of civil defence operations and environmental sustainability.
The first lecture was delivered by DCC Dr. Osemekeh Ebi Paul and focused on an overview of the International Civil Defence Organisation (ICDO) and the NSCDC. His presentation highlighted the establishment, membership, organisational structure, and coordination mechanisms of both bodies.
The second lecture was presented by the Guest Speaker, Mr. Enoch Anyakpele, State Coordinator of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA). He spoke on the 2026 ICDO theme, “Managing Environmental Risks for a Resilient and Sustainable Future.” His presentation emphasised the need for proactive environmental management and stronger inter-agency collaboration to mitigate risks threatening sustainable development.
An interactive session followed, providing participants with the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions. The session identified key areas requiring urgent and decisive action by relevant stakeholders, including government authorities and regulatory agencies responsible for monitoring companies, groups, and individuals whose operations may pose environmental risks.
In his remarks, Mr. Anyakpele assured the NSCDC Delta Command of strengthened collaboration with NESREA, noting that both agencies share complementary mandates. He expressed confidence that enhanced cooperation would significantly improve service delivery and environmental protection efforts in the state.
