The National Police Council has confirmed Olatunji Disu as Nigeria’s substantive Inspector-General of Police, officially ratifying his appointment as the country’s 23rd police chief. The decision was taken during a council meeting chaired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.
Disu had earlier been appointed Acting Inspector-General of Police on February 24, following the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun. His confirmation now formalizes his position as the head of the Nigeria Police Force in accordance with constitutional provisions.
A seasoned and experienced officer, Disu brings years of operational and administrative expertise to the office. His elevation signals a new phase of leadership within the Force at a time when the nation is grappling with evolving security concerns.
The confirmation underscores the commitment of the Federal Government to ensuring continuity and stability within the country’s law enforcement architecture. Observers note that the transition was handled smoothly, reflecting institutional maturity within the policing system.
As the 23rd Inspector-General of Police, Disu is expected to consolidate ongoing reforms, strengthen intelligence-driven policing, and enhance public trust in the Force while addressing Nigeria’s complex security challenges.
