The Ogun State Police Command has reported that its Anti-Kidnapping Unit killed two suspected kidnappers and rescued an abducted professional truck driver during a counter-operation in the state.

The victim was reportedly abducted at about 11:10 pm on August 25, 2026, in the Ajibawo area of Ibese. Following the report, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit launched an intelligence-led operation and tracked the suspects to their hideout along the Papalanto–Ilaro Road.

According to the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, two suspects were killed during the operation, while other gang members escaped with varying degrees of gunshot injuries. A search of the hideout led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of ammunition, two mobile phones and ₦2 million suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.

The police said the bodies of the two suspects had been deposited at a morgue for autopsy, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang. Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni commended the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for its courage and professionalism, saying the operation demonstrated the command’s determination to tackle kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.

Ojajuni assured residents that the police would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing, tactical operations and community partnerships to protect lives and property. He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information, particularly about individuals seeking medical treatment for suspected gunshot injuries.
